Magazines

There are many excellent magazines for stitchers. Some deal with a variety of needlework. Others are limited in their scope but are included here as there is considerable cross over to needlepoint.  Each description includes type of needlework and website. Any photos contained in our Kits/Charts section can be accessed by clicking on the word Charts at the end of each review.

Classic Stitches  (www.classicstitches.com)

This wonderful magazine out of the U.K. covers a broad variety of needlework as does the website. The site provides instruction on various stitches, patterns for download, background on designers and information about workshops and courses. Definitely worth a look. (Charts)

Cross Stitch & Beading (Jill Oxton's)   www.jilloxtonxstitch.com

This magazine from Australia, as the title implies, specializes in cross stitch and beading.  However, most of these elegant designs can be adapted for needlepoint. The website contains large photos of each of the designs. (Charts)

Cross Stitch & Needlework   www.stitchworld.com

Cross Stitch & Needlework (formerly Stitcher's World) is a magazine with few wordy articles but full of wonderful, new projects.  Most are for cross-stitch but many of these could be adapted for needlepoint. The website is more a retail outlet than magazine. (Charts)

Cross Stitch Gold     www.cross-stitching.com

This is a fabulous magazine with excellent charts on quality paper. As the sister magazine to the discontinued Needlepoint Gold, there are almost always designs suitable for needlepoint.   (Charts)

Just Cross Stitch   www.just-crossstitch.com

As the title implies, this magazine concentrates on cross stitch.  They have, however, in the past presented excellent articles on charting software and other topics of interest to needlepointers.  The website  contains articles on designers, threads, and other topics of interest to stitchers. (Charts)

Needle Pointers  (www.needlepoint.org/magazine.htm

Needle Pointers is the official magazine of the American Needlepoint Guild.  The website contains Covers and Table of Contents for current and back issues, as well as an Archive of articles from old issues.

Needlecraft

Needlecraft magazine showcases designs for cross-stitch, patchwork, needlepoint and embroidery.  I was unable to find a website. (Charts)

Needlepoint Gold

Needlepoint Gold was the magazine from Origin Publishing devoted entirely to needlepoint. Sadly, only 8 issues were published before the magazine ceased publications. I am unaware of a source of back issues.  (Charts)

Needlepoint Now   www.needlepointnow.com

Needlepoint Now is a magazine devotedly exclusively to needlepoint.  The website contains Covers and Table of Contents for current and back issues, as well as a wonderful Online Classroom detailing the various canvases, needles and threads available to needlepointers.

New Stitches   (www.newstitches.com

Mary Hickmott's New Stitches is a magazine of cross-stitch, blackwork and hardanger.  From time to time, it includes a design suitable for needlepoint.  (Charts)

Piecework  www.interweave.com/needle/

Piecework describes itself as Needlework and History, Hand in Hand. The magazine contains interesting articles on historical needlework and a few scattered projects. The website describes the current issue. (Charts)

Stitch    www.embroiderersguild.com/stitch/

Stitch is the magazine of the Embroiderers' Guild.  It is a wonderful magazine with excellent articles, photographs and projects. The website is equally as enjoyable - with articles, stitch illustrations and projects.  Links to the Embroiderers' Guild main website.

Stitcher's World   www.stitchworld.com

Stitcher's World has been renamed Cross Stitch & Needlework.  See above.
