International Faces

This is a series of faces by Judy Strite, each representing a different country.  Most are framed portraits, between 15 and 16 inches square. The canvas has been laced over an acid-free board and mounted in front of a fabric mat.  Click on small photo at left for larger view.

Afghanistan

Canada

China

This general is part of the life-sized terracotta army discovered in 1974 in Xi'an, China. Over 7,000 figures (warriors, horses and chariots) have been unearthed to date.  

Egypt

This is the death mask of King Tutankhamun, unearthed in 1922 and currently on display in Cairo's Egyptian Museum with a dazzling array of furniture and artifacts taken from his tomb. 

Greece

The Westmacott Athlete by Polykleitos is currently on display in the British Museum in London.

This is the Courtesan Musician by Kitagawa Utamaro This portrait was one of my early attempts and is still unfinished.

This portrait was inspired by a photograph of a young Masai woman.
